Insomnia @ KitKat Club, Berlin, 2003

On 17 October 2003, Corvin Dalek played at Insomnia at the KitKatClub in Berlin. At the time, the club was located on Bessemerstraße, on the site of the former Schultheiss maltings. The Insomnia series had developed within the KitKatClub environment and was established by Dominique and DJ Clark Kent; after earlier locations, it took place on Fridays at the Bessemerstraße venue.

The performance took place on the Friday of Berlin’s Venus event as part of an Insomnia aftershow at the KitKatClub. Organised by Dominique and DJ Clark Kent, the night connected the regular Insomnia context with guests and participants from the wider Venus environment. Dominique, already a central figure within the series at the time, provided one of the main performances of the evening.

The set belongs to the same period as the album I Am a Dalek, which was released a few days later in October 2003. Dalek also played material connected with the album and his Wet&Hard work of the period. The surviving recording moves between Acid, Progressive House, electronic tracks and Wet&Hard.

The recording therefore documents a Berlin DJ set from the immediate production and release period of I Am a Dalek and remains preserved in the archive as a live recording.
