Shannon – Let The Music Play
Corvin Dalek Remix
Commissioned by DMC, 2001
Shannon’s Let The Music Play is a defining track of 1980s dance culture. For me, it formed part of the background of my formative years. In 2001, Mark Reeder called with a request from DMC: an official remix. The invitation to reinterpret a piece so embedded in my musical memory was unexpected.
The task was to retain the original’s vocal structure and rhythmic identity while placing the track within a Wet&Hard framework. Together with Mark, I developed a version that kept the break close to the source, allowing Shannon’s voice and melodic phrasing to remain central. Outside the break, the structure was redefined: harder beats and saturated wet-low-end. The result functions as both reference and response. A pinch of Nostalgic, but not retrospective.
