Quetzalcoatl emerged from a moment of encounter. In 2003, during a stay in Mexico City, I was introduced to a cultural landscape I had not previously known. Our new Friend DJ Klang – a central figure in Mexico’s electronic music scene, producer, educator, and long-time collaborator – guided us through the city. Before we entered the studio, we witnessed a performance on Zócalo Plaza: Aztec dancers moving in front of the cathedral, structured by rhythm, repetition, and ceremonial precision. After the performance, their leader spoke to us about the original world – the first order of things. One name remained: Quetzalcoatl. Its resonance was immediate. The phonetic similarity to older European languages was striking. We purchased a CD from the dancers. Their music stayed with us.
Shortly after, DJ Klang and Ramiro Puente invited us into their studio. They were interested in technique and structure – specifically the Wet&Hard method: wet-end pressure..
