WET&HARD – The Definition
WET&HARD (released on November 11, 2002, on Flesh) represents a pivotal moment in my career. While my earlier compilations – E for Europe, Stadtansichten, HOTKUNST, and LOVETOYS – were part of the Assorted series on MFS, WET&HARD marked a deliberate new beginning. This album defined a sound that we once jokingly called “porn music” – a fusion of techno’s raw energy with house’s playful sensuality. WET&HARD signaled my artistic emancipation and the birth of a new creative identity.
The Making of WET&HARD
During this time, I was frequently traveling across the UK, playing in legendary clubs and soaking up the vibrant energy of the scene. These experiences deeply influenced my music and shaped the sound I brought back to Berlin. Flesh, a sublabel of MFS, served as a creative playground where these experiments could flourish. This sublabel laid the foundation for what would later become my own label, Fummelerum Company.
WET&HARD brought together the best releases from Flesh, encapsulating the core of this unique subgenre. Each track takes the listener on a journey – from wild, driving energy to hypnotic depths, culminating in the powerful final track, “A Real Man (Real Hardcore Mixxx).”
WET&HARD was a symbol of a transformative period in my life. It reflected a musical revolution, capturing the essence of the early 2000s in Berlin, where music and art knew no boundaries. The tracks embody the aphrodisiac energy of the clubs, the hedonism of the crowds, and the creative freedom that defined the city during this time. This compilation stands as a monument to an era where anything felt possible.
A Shift in Perspective
Behind every work of art lies the artist, with all their struggles, conflicts, and transformations. In my memoir, I delve into the meaning of WET&HARD—not just as a sound, but as an expression of an entire era. I invite you to shift your perspective: from the surface of the music to the essence of the artist.
