Ostkreuz (feat. End Of The Worlds)
Ostkreuz is a track about transitions – a reflection of Friedrichshain’s central station, where trains, people, and lives intersect. It’s a place of constant movement, a mechanical rhythm that became the foundation of this piece. In 2016, I captured its energy: filming the crowds, recording the sounds of trains, and sampling the chaos. The result is Ostkreuz – a minimalist, raw track that embodies the essence of a station as both a physical and symbolic crossroads. This marked my transition from the textured grooves of Wet&Hard to a starker, more introspective sound. The track is stripped back yet full of weight, mirroring the rawness of Friedrichshain itself.
Created Against All Odds
The production of Ostkreuz came at a difficult moment. My studio had been robbed, leaving me with little more than an i5 PC and a pair of basic computer monitors. These limitations shaped the track’s raw aesthetic. The station’s sampled sounds formed the backbone, creating a piece that felt more like a living environment than a traditional techno track. The result isn’t a conventional club track. Instead, it’s a snapshot of Friedrichshain – its sounds, its motion, and its contradictions. Ostkreuz is the intersection of my surroundings, reduced to their mechanical and emotional core.
A Bridge Between Identities
For me, Ostkreuz represents a crossing point – between Corvin Dalek, the urban musician, and Gábor Müller, the writer and observer. Having lived in Friedrichshain for over 15 years, the station became a metaphor for the intersections that define my life: the merging of music and storytelling, chaos and structure, past and present.
The visuals I recorded at Ostkreuz during its creation bridge these identities, turning the track into more than just sound. Ostkreuz is a meditation on urban life, a connection point between what moves and what lingers.
