Quetzalcoatl was a revelation. In 2003, while in Mexico City, I was introduced to a world I had never encountered before. DJ Klang – a legendary figure in Mexico’s electronic music scene, a pioneer, producer, teacher and remixer – guided us through the city, eventually leading us into the studio. But before the music, there was the experience. At Zócalo Plaza, we watched Aztec dancers perform their sacred rituals in front of the cathedral – a hypnotic mix of rhythm, movement, and mysticism. After the performance, their chief shared stories of the primordial world, the original reality. One word resonated: Quetzalcoatl. It struck me as strangely familiar, almost Germanic in tone, sparking a deep curiosity. We bought a CD from the dancers, featuring their music, and there it was.
From Aztec Myths of Quetzalcoatl to the Studio
The timing was perfect. DJ Klang and Ramiro Puente invited us to their studio, eager to explore new production techniques. They wanted to understand the Wet&Hard philosophy- how the deep basslines, sharp hi-hats, and rolling latino rhythms combined into a signature sound. This creative exchange led to something unique: a track that fused ancient rhythms with modern club energy.
